Frequently Answered Questions

Who are Biosphere's customers?
Biosphere has spent over 5 years developing its unique technology. Our current equipment is designed for very high production, i.e. about a million products per month per machine.  Subsequently, we are concentrating our efforts on high volume launch customers to begin commercial roll out of our products.  In November 2006, we Joint Ventured with Sealed Air whose Cryovac subsidiary is very familiar with food packaging.

Which markets are currently being supplied by Biosphere?
Biosphere's unique materials are dual ovenable which means they can be used in the microwave or the oven.  As such, our initial offerings are targeted towards aluminum and CPET disposables with applications of low moisture.

What products does Biosphere manufacture?
Biosphere has developed a line of microwavable pizza trays, muffin containers, pie pans, and several dual ovenable trays.

What other attributes does Renew-a-pak have?
Renw-a-pak's PPM100 (Primary Packaging Material 100 formula) is designed for low moisture applications.  It is a natural humectant which can help in some cases prolong the longevity of products (full features list).

What about colors?
Biosphere has developed several unique colors that include natural, black, terra cotta, and blue.

How are Biosphere products manufactured?
Biosphere’s innovative technology is similar to making an ice cream cone.  Thus our factory is setup like a bakery.

If Biosphere is setup like a bakery, does that mean the chef can modify the formula?
Biosphere can add scents and colors to the mix then bake the mixture into the final shape.  That is a unique aspect of our technology.

What about the carbon footprint?
Biosphere is continually evaluating its impact on the environment.  Current studies show that we have a substantially less impact on the environment than aluminum and CPET products.  However, we are as thick as Expanded Polystyrene thus need to be aware of the transportation issues as we do not stack as compactly as say, paper products.

What world markets has Biosphere entered?
Biosphere is currently concentrating on expanding in the USA.  However, with Sealed Air on board, we will be able to expand into Canada, Mexico, and Europe then Asia and South America.

What about certifications?
Biosphere is proud to have completed successful testing of our products in Canadian, US, and European certified laboratories. (certification data) We have received the Biodegradable Institute’s Seal of Approval per ASTM D6868 and are in the process of applying for our Din/Certco European certification after successful test results.  In addition, the University of Iowa has carbon dated our material as made from mostly yearly renewable resources.

Where can I purchase Biosphere Products?
Biosphere is currently testing our products with several large customers. In addition, Sealed Air's sales force will be coming on board this year to help introduce our materials to the US market.

What about disposal of Renew-a-pak products?
All Biosphere products are compostable and biodegradable.  In fact, we are home compost friendly and will degrade completely in a commercial compost in under 10 days.  In addition, our products can be diverted to the paper waste stream.  We are also garbage disposal safe.

Since you are setup as a bakery, what about edible products?
Biosphere has developed a line of edible flavored pet containers.
